Arthur Williamson came to California State University, Sacramento in 1988 as the Dean of Graduate Studies. Since 1991 he has been Professor of History and has taught courses in both history and humanities. Previously he had taught at Washington University in St. Louis, at the University of Chicago, and at New York University where he served as the Assistant Dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Science. He earned his B.A. at Carleton College, and his Ph.D. at Washington University where his research was guided by J.G.A. Pocock. In 1994 he received the President's Award for Research and Creative Activity from California State University, Sacramento.
