Il est un père inconsolable qui ne se remettra jamais de la disparition de son rayon de soleil, Léopoldine, et de la folie qui lui enlève sa cadette : la belle Adèle. Exilé politique à Jersey puis à Guernesey, loin de son pays pendant 20 ans, il décore sa nouvelle maison, la transformant à son image, en un véritable livre ouvert. Loin de sa patrie, il continue à se battre pour ses idées politiques visionnaires. Homme du siècle et conscient des difficultés de son temps, Victor Hugo n’a jamais pu réfréner son combat absolu pour la liberté : celle des hommes, mais aussi de l’esprit.

    Cité côtière située au nord-est de l'île de Honshu, la ville de Minamisanriku a le plus souffert du séisme du 11 mars 2011 et du tsunami qui a suivi. Dans les ruines de cette petite cité de 17 000 habitants, on a retrouvé un millier de morts. Mais le bilan humain aurait été plus lourd sans le courage de Miki Endo, jeune employée municipale au bureau de protection contre les catastrophes naturelles, chargée de la diffusion des annonces par haut-parleur. Informée de l'arrivée de la vague géante sur Minamisanriku, cette jeune femme de 24 ans a tenu à rester au poste central, répétant inlassablement aux habitants qu'ils devaient quitter leur logement ou leur lieu de travail pour se réfugier dans les hauteurs. Lorsque la vague a déferlé, il était trop tard pour elle-même. Pendant toute une année, les documentaristes ont suivi la manière dont se sont reconstruits les survivants de la catastrophe, parmi lesquels les parents de Miki Endo, qui, eux aussi, doivent à leur fille d'avoir eu la vie sauve.

    It's a hot summer on Amity Island, a small community whose main business is its beaches.
