The delightful Winnie Lightner stars in this comedy-drama as Pat, a traveling carnival troupe member who does everything from high diving to hula dancing, with time left over to romance meek and mild Sidney (Charles Butterworth) and try to save her younger sister, Irene (Evelyn Knapp), from a lecherous carny barker. The slapstick big-top finale is a highlight.

Deputy U. S. Marshal Jim Burke, stationed in Flagstaff, Arizona in 1886, follows the trail of four bank robbers and catches one of them, Manuel Jackson, when Manuel's horse goes lame. The other three, Slade, Clark and Martin, escape. Three years later Manuel is shot by Burke while attempting a prison break and, before he dies, Manuel reveals that his sister, Raquel, living in Prescott, knows the identity of his three bank-robber partners, now in Prescott using assumed names.

Chubunka is the self-made head of the rackets in the sleazy boardwalk community of Neptune City, a low-rent version of Coney Island. He has become infatuated with a sultry nightclub chanteuse and lavishes her with gifts and attention, spending money on her that might better go to maintaining his hold on his operation. His obsession with her, as well as his pride, clouds his judgment as Cornell, a much more ruthless hoodlum, moves in on Chubunka's territory, bribes and threatens his associates, and compromises his operation. As if in a Greek tragedy, the petty gangster's weaknesses conspire to cause his downfall.

Van Gogh - Maurice Pialat (1991)

This is Maurice Pialat's masterpiece, one of the best French films ever ! Unlike the title may induce, it's not a Van Gogh "classic" biography as Pialat only shows the last three months of the painter's life, from his arrival in Auvers sur Oise until his suicide. The picture is constantly moving, intelligent, funny and masterfully photographed (some sequences along the river look like Renoirs's paintings). It's as much a movie about Pialat himself as about Van Gogh.
