Adam and Barbara are a normal couple…who happen to be dead. They have given their precious time to decorate the house and make it their own, but unfortunately a family is moving in, and not quietly. Adam and Barbara try to scare them out, but ends up becoming the main attraction to the money making family. They call upon Beetlejuice to help, but Beetlejuice has more in mind than just helping.

Keaton takes haunting to new heights as the title character in this otherworldly comedy that gets funnier with every viewing. Baldwin and Davis co-star as the couple who initially don't realize they're dead and then refuse to leave their earthly dream home. When a living family movies in, they call upon Beetlejuice's obnoxious nature to rid their house of these unwanted guests. He's their last hope.

Unfortunately, after a few hours enduring his unrelentingly evil personality, the snotty yuppies don't seem so bad. They enlist the aid of the new homeowners' super-goth teenage daughter (Ryder) to help them get rid of Beetlejuice and regain the quiet sanctity of their home. They only have all of eternity to wage the battle, especially since savvy city folk prove as difficult to frighten off as ornery undead creatures.

Burton brings his unique visual style and dark sense of humor to this hilarious tale. Every piece of the cinematic puzzle fits perfectly together from the brilliant cast to the inventive and spooky art direction, from the clever script to the toe-tapping soundtrack.

Keaton has rarely been better, fully flexing his comic muscles. Even Ryder's pouty Princess of Darkness is spot on. She's one of the few actors who can make odd characters lovable. She should work again with Burton before both their careers become truly unsalvagable. One of Burton's most energetic, playful and fully-realized flicks. Hours of demented fun.

With ghosts and the dead, one would normally anticipate a horror movie loaded with screams and gory figures. But in Beetlejuice, we see a new dimension humour being experimented with.

Taking into the account that the movie was made in 1988 with limited special effects, Beetlejuice could be simply labelled as "creativity at its best".

Tim Burton is a pure visionary and with this movie you cannot help but appreciate the amount of creativity he has and his ability to translate it to screen.

Acting is top-rate from all fronts. One can't help but admire promising young Winona Ryder - a flower ready to bloom.

It would take a couple of viewings to be appreciate the movie in totality.
