    Sakhile Gumbi is a young multi-media artist from Johannesburg, South Africa. Environment/Genes was his final third year film for his multi media degree. He directed, shot and edited the project himself as well as doing all the drawings and animation.

    Performance poetry is widely popular in South Africa. In this work Gumbi experiments with creating a music video for a performance of a poem set to music. He uses multi-layering of images to reflect the poet's dilemma as expressed in the words.

    This piece is a fine example of the young talent waiting to be discovered in South Africa.
