It’s shockingly easy to steal a person’s bank or credit card details. You can buy cards on the dark web for $6 or, if you’re as smart as fraudster “Mr Posh”, you can persuade the owners to give their details over the phone. And it’s amazing how many normally savvy people do. He steals from dozens of accounts daily. Although the style of this doc makes it feel like it should be in the daytime schedules, it’s horribly fascinating hearing Mr Posh at work (he uses different accents and even poses as a woman). We follow a special police unit in London as they track him down and bring him to book. Criminals are increasingly procuring bank and credit card details from online customers, which are then freely traded on the so-called `dark web'. However, as this programme reveals, to succeed in doing this they must first get personal with their targets using a combination of data hacks, spam e-mail and malware - often coupled by posing as inquisitive bank staff via telephone calls. With reference to true-life occurrences, this programme outlines the various techniques used to swindle account holders of their cash.
