Ingaló is helping her father on his small fishing boat, but he’s an obstinate character and relations between them are tense. After a dance in the village which ends in a fight between the local people and crew of Matthildur ÍS 167, a visiting fishing boat, Ingaló and her younger brother leave home. Ingaló stays briefly in Reykjavík and has a short affair with Vilhjálmur, a man in his thirties. Sveinn has found a job on Matthildur and Ingaló is taken on as a cook. The fishing is poor and when the vessel breaks down it heads for home port, where the crew stays in derelict living quarters for seasonal workers. Ingaló finds out that Matthildur’s owner and big wheel in town is none other than Vilhjálmur.

It is a pity that Scandinavian cinema is not as popular as other national cinemas from western European countries. This is a bad precedent for cinema as apart from some handful of films, viewers do not have much idea about films from Norway,Sweden and Finland. One reason for lack of popularity of Scandinavian cinema is that old directors are still making films while young directors are finding it difficult to even raise funds for their films. As Swedish cinema has always been completely dominated by a single director Ingmar Bergman,Icelandic cinema is not much different.A history of Icelandic cinema cannot be written without mentioning the name of its most veteran film maker Fridrik Thor Fridriksson. This is something which might mother other filmmakers when they make their own films.Asdis Thoroddsen is one of the most intelligent film makers from Iceland. His debut film "Ingalo" is about a young girl who experiences emotional turmoil both in her personal as well as professional lives.Icelandic actress Solveig Arnarsdottir looks brilliant as Ingalo who is a rebel with a cause.
