    Weihnachtszeit, Wunderzeit – sogar in der hektischen Stadt New York können noch Wunder geschehen! Der nette Kaufhaus-Nikolaus Kriss Kringle ist ein richtiger Bilderbuch-Weihnachtsmann. Er sieht nicht nur so aus wie der echte Nikolaus, er behauptet sogar, er wäre der echte Weihnachtsmann. Für alle Kinder, die ihn kennen, gibt es da überhaupt keinen Zweifel – wenn da nicht nur die realistischen Erwachsenen wären. Für die ist der gute Mr. Kringle einfach ein Verrückter.
    Aber wie kann man das beweisen? Für Kringle geht es um mehr, als nur in eine Anstalt eingewiesen werden. Für ihn geht es um die Kinder der ganzen Welt – denn was wäre Weihnachten ohne den Geschenkebringer? Und es geht ihm um die kleine Susan und deren Mutter: Denn gerade diese kleine Familie hätte ein Wunder bitter nötig.
