Psychomania (1973)

I really don't want to say this is my favorite movie, but it sure is tempting. I know full well how cheesy and ridiculous it is… but it's also the most rockin', stylish, all-out groovy flick I have ever seen!

Psychomania (1973)

I have no idea why this is classified as a horror movie. As far as I can tell, it's meant to be a comedy. A very, very black comedy. The movie's brilliance is that it takes extremely touchy subjects and turns them into lighthearted jokes. The basic message, as far as I can tell, is that there is nothing wrong with mass suicide, anarchism, or devil worship… in fact, it can even be fun! Now, can they really be SERIOUS about this? I think not. The entire movie is a joke, and a very funny one.

Psychomania (1973)

With scenes such as a a biker jumping to his death after telling a cop "I'll be right down!", a biker blasting out of his grave on his motorcycle, a biker coming back from the dead in the morgue and calmly walking out like he just woke up from a nap, etc., all accompanied by some seriously sweet rock music, this is about as cool as it gets. I defy anyone to come up with a more entertaining movie than this.

Psychomania (1973)

I don't know what it is about you English people. You drive on the left side, you speak American with some weird accent, you have some withered, century old prune that reigns o'er you, and you make something as standard as a 60's biker flick fucking bizarre as shit.

Seriously, this movie is fucking weird. And it's not all, "Ooh, look at this it's weird!" like a lot of other movies. It simply presents this world as if it were totally normal. Don't get me wrong, I wish the world of Psychomania were normal. It'd be a lot more fun that's for sure.

Psychomania (1973)

Anyway, the plot is kinda weird. Basically there's a biker gang called the Living Dead. They ride around town and fuck shit up. What's hilarious though, is after a day of riding their motorcycles through busy shopping centers, the leader goes home and has tea with his mother, and talks all proper and shit. "Oh, how do you do mother, I've just returned from thoroughly fucking shit up, it was a jolly good time."

Psychomania (1973)

So the main dude (I've forgotten his name)lives with his mother and a butler. One day he wants to know about his father, so his mother puts him in this weird room, and this frog appears in the mirror, and he sees a vision of the past, then some lights and shit happen, and then he screams and it's all very trippy I'm sure.

Psychomania (1973)

So then he makes some sort of deal with the frog about if he kills himself and truly wants to die, he'll come back and be immortal. Hey, this sounds totally logical to me.

So this guy it's great, he just goes and rides his bike off a bridge, he's totally dead. His funeral is fantastic. If and when I die I want to be buried like this, get it. His friends prop him up so he's on top of his motorcycle, they bury him like that, just sitting in the grave on his bike. Fucking Rad.

Psychomania (1973)

Now the friends are all bummed, because their leader and friend is dead. But what's this? A few days later, he rides his bike out of the grave and kills somebody on his way to find his friends.

And he does, and they love him, he tells them to follow his lead and begin killing themselves. My friends, the scenes of all these people killing one another is priceless.

So then, they all kill themselves and come back and completely destroy anything in their path. Fantastic.

Psychomania (1973)

Then some other stuff happens and the frog comes back and they all die for reals. They turn into dirt or something. It turns out the frog was the devil. Or something.

So their you have it. A weird fucking movie. Funny most the time, but always strange as hell. If you like taking drugs and watching movies, this is one you should look into. It'll freak you out man! Totally Totally!
