The Cherry Orchard (2008)

Remake of a hit film from 1990, "The Cherry Orchard" which Nakahara himself directed, based on a popular comic book from Akimi Yoshida. The story takes place at a prestigious girls high school where everyone is oppressed with rules. One girl who just transferred to this school finds a long lost script of Anton Chekhov's "The Cherry Orchard" which was banned from school 11 years ago. Breaking strict school rules and boundaries, she and her friends decide to perform the play. With sentiment, love and passion, the girls cherish the moment of their life before taking the next step towards adulthood.

Momo Yuki (Saki Fukuda), who studied the violin from early childhood, decides to terminate her musical education after the conflict with her teacher. Thanks to relations of her father, she tranfers without exams into senior class of the pompous All Girl Ouka High School. Early, her mother and elder sister graduated with honors from this school. At school, she becomes bored, and she is looking for an occupation that would help her and her classmates to brighten up the monotony of everyday life. In the old school building she discovers a former drama club room and finds a scenery of Anton Chekhov's play "The Cherry Orchard". In old days the performance of this play was a required part of school foundation day ceremony. But now for some reason, "The Cherry Orchard" is prohibited in Ouka… Momo gathers a group of fellow advocates and decides, despite the ban, by all means to revive a performance of this play.

Notes:
1. Momo's parents like fruits: her name is Momo (桃) - "peach", her elder sister's name is Anzu(杏) - "apricot".
2. I haven't read Chekhov in English, and I don't know how to compare lines from Chekhov's play in English subtitles with the English translation of "The Cherry Orchard" play. But I could guarantee that in Russian subtitles all lines from "The Cherry Orchard" have been taken from the original Chekhov's play.
