A pair of teenagers push their adolescent angst into dangerous territory in this drama from French filmmaker Jean-Paul Civeyrac. Noemie is a seventeen-year-old high school student studying music. Noemie is given to strong mood swings and has already attempted to take her own life once. Noemie becomes friends with Priscilla, an eighteen-year-old classmate who has a similarly dour vision of the world. Priscilla shares Noemie's passion for dark clothing, conspicuous rejection of the values of their classmates, and the work of German romantic poet Heinrich von Kleist, who committed suicide in 1811. The two girls become close to the point of obsession, and when Priscilla falls into an especially deep funk after breaking up with her boyfriend, she and Noemie draft a suicide pack and announce to their peers that they'll kill themselves in 24 hours. However, their plan doesn't go as expected, and ending it all turns out to be more difficult than they thought. Des Filles en Noir (aka Young Girls In Black) was an official selection at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival.
