Wren is a physician and activist working in West Africa with the organization Doctors of the World that her dead father started so many years ago. She's happy to lead the organization, but frequently finds herself negatively comparing herself to her father's achievements. During 2003 Wren meets Miguel, a handsome surgeon who has also devoted himself to treating people from impoverished and war torn sections of the world. The two fall in love, however Wren soon discovers that Miguel has had a prior sexual relationship with her cousin, which contributes to the decay of their relationship.

The Last Face is a 2016 American drama film directed by Sean Penn and written by Erin Dignam. The film stars Charlize Theron, Javier Bardem, Adèle Exarchopoulos and Jean Reno. It was selected to compete for the Palme d'Or at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, debuting to generally poor reviews.[3] The film was released on DirecTV on June 29, 2017, ahead of a theatrical and video on demand release on July 28, 2017, by Saban Films.

Trama
Il racconto di un amore sbocciato in un Paese dilaniato dalle guerre civili. Diretto dal due volte premio Oscar Sean Penn, la storia di Il tuo ultimo sguardo abbraccia un arco temporale di circa 13 anni: sullo sfondo dell'attuale stato di crisi in Sudan, inizia all'interno di una base di una missione delle Nazioni Unite, dove l'organizzazione ha fatto rifugiare un intero campo-profughi.

Il dottor Miguel Leon (Javier Bardem), un medico impegnato in una missione di aiuto sanitario, e la dottoressa Wren Petersen (Charlize Theron), direttrice di un'organizzazione umanitaria, si incontrano e si innamorano alcuni anni prima, mentre in Liberia e in Sierra Leone esplode il conflitto armato. Nella cornice estremamente difficile della guerra in Liberia, Miguel e Wren dovranno trovare il modo per mantenere vivo il loro rapporto, nonostante le opinioni di entrambi per risolvere il conflitto siano diametralmente opposte e contrastanti.
