Charlie Kenton è un ex pugile che ha perso la sua ultima occasione di conquistare il titolo quando un robot di 800kg e oltre 2 metri d'altezza lo ha sostituito sul ring. Ora che non è altro che un promoter a tempo perso, Charlie guadagna abbastanza soldi montando robot di poco valore con metallo di scarto per passare da un incontro clandestino di boxe all'altro. Quando Charlie tocca il fondo, si unisce a malincuore a Max, il figlio dal quale si era separato, per costruire e allenare uno sfidante che possa vincere.
