Stone asks Gannon to speak before a night-school college journalism class. He turns down the invitation, writing a nasty letter to the instructor stating his viewpoint, but is ordered to go before the class by his managing editor. He finds the attractive Stone teaching the class. Before he is able to introduce himself and apologize for the letter, Erica reads it aloud and mocks Gannon before the class.

Humiliated, he decides to join the class to show her up, posing as a wallpaper salesman named Jim Gallagher. Erica is quite taken by this charming man, whom she unwittingly finds exceptional for a student. Gannon continues his ruse as he becomes quite enchanted with Erica, and has to fend off Dr. Pine, as well as his own girlfriend Peggy DeFore, a nightclub singer (Mamie Van Doren). When Erica discovers Gannon's deception, she immediately calls their relationship off, but convinced by Dr. Pine, she gives Gannon another chance.

Jim Gannon, capo cronista dell'Evening Cronicle, è un giornalista di valore, il quale approfitta di ogni occasione per vantare l'assoluta superiorità della pratica rispetto allo studio teorico. Quando il titolare di una cattedra universitaria di giornalismo lo invita a tenere una conferenza agli studenti, Jim risponde con una caustica lettera e si presenta in aula in veste di studente, per godersi l'effetto che la sua missiva è destinata a produrre, com'egli crede. La realtà però lo mette di fronte ad elementi imprevisti, che mortificano alquanto la sua presunzione: il titolare della cattedra è una giovane donna affascinante, figlia di un illustre giornalista, la quale, commentando la lettera di Jim, demolisce con mordace arguzia la mitica figura del giornalista che si è fatto da sé.

Jim si mette a frequentare i corsi come studente e, quando la professoressa Erica Stone gli esprime il proprio compiacimento per le sue brillanti qualità, non ha il coraggio di svelare la propria identità. Ma ben presto egli viene a trovarsi in una situazione imbarazzante: egli è innamorato della giovane donna ed è tormentato dal rimorso di averla ingannata. Inoltre, la cultura di Erica e il celebre nome di suo padre fanno sì ch'egli si senta vittima di un complesso d'inferiorità. Poi, scopre che nella vita dim Erica c'è un altro uomo; non si tratta però di un fidanzato, ma di un buon amico, il prof. Hugo Pine, con il quale Jim non esita a confidarsi. Recovery Volumes (.rev)
Recovery volumes or .rev files are special files which can be created by WinRAR/RAR and allow you to reconstruct missing and damaged files in a volume set. They can
only be used with multi-volume archives.
This feature may be useful for backups or, for example, when you post a multivolume archive to a newsgroup and some of the subscribers did not receive some files. Reposting recovery volumes instead of usual volumes may reduce the total number of files to repost.
Each recovery volume is able to reconstruct one missing RAR volume. For example, if you have 30 volumes and 3 recovery volumes, you are able to reconstruct any 3 missing volumes. If the number of .rev files is less than a number of missing volumes, reconstructing is impossible. The total number of usual and recovery volumes must not exceed 255 and the number of recovery volumes must be less than the number of RAR volumes.
WinRAR reconstructs missing and damaged volumes either when clicking on .rev file, or when using rc command or automatically, if it cannot locate the next volume and finds the required number of .rev files when unpacking.
You may use the "Recovery volumes" option in the Archive name and parameters dialog or a similar option also appears in the Protect archive command to create recovery volumes. In the command line mode you may do it with -rv switch or rv command.
Original copies of damaged volumes are renamed to *.bad before reconstruction. For example, volname.part03.rar will be renamed to volname.part03.rar.bad.
