Bianco e nero, buono e cattivo, cane e gatto: le distinzioni manicheistiche non passano mai di moda e, nella tanto sbandierata rivalità, anche se non sempre così evidente nell'esperienza reale, tra i felini e i migliori amici dell'uomo, sono quasi sempre i primi a recitare il ruolo dei cattivi. Così era andata in Come cani e gatti, in cui il malefico persiano Mr. Tinkles progettava di rendere l'intera umanità allergica ai cani. Quasi dieci anni dopo, è ancora un cattivissimo felino a minacciare la serena convivenza delle due specie: si tratta di Kitty Galore che, attraverso una rivendicazione degna del più spregiudicato terrorista, informerà l'intelligence canina della loro prossima riduzione in schiavitù. E' così che il beagle Lou deciderà di affiancare all'agente Butch un nuovo elemento: si tratta di Diggs, ex cane poliziotto rinchiuso in canile dopo l'ennesima azione un po' sopra le righe. Ma ciò che manca a Diggs in abilità tattica viene compensato dal suo coraggio, e se la prospettiva di evadere da un canile lo elettrizza, quello che lo convincerà definitivamente ad accettare la missione è la possibilità di scontrarsi con gli acerrimi nemici di sempre (secondi solo ai postini): i gatti.
