Storyline: A treasure hunt. An aging ex-nobleman of the Czarist regime has finally adjusted to life under the commisars in Russia. Both he and the local priest find that the family jewels were hidden in a chair, one of a set of twelve. They return separately to Moscow to find the hidden fortune.

Beschreibung: Russland, 1927. Der verarmte Adelige Ippolit (RON MOODY) erfährt am Sterbebett seiner Schwiegermutter, dass sie Familienjuwelen in einem der zwölf Esszimmer-Stühle versteckt hat, die inzwischen verkauft und über das ganze Land verteilt wurden. Sofort macht er sich auf die Suche nach dem Schatz. Doch nicht nur er, auch ein Gauner (FRANK LANGELLA), ein listiger Priester (DOM DE LUISE) und sein ehemaliger Diener (MEL BROOKS) haben davon erfahren und begeben sich ebenfalls auf die Suche. Eine turbulente und abenteuerliche Jagd durchs ganze Land beginnt.
