    La chaise rouge et bleue du Néerlandais Gerrit Rietveld construite en 1918 et peinte en 1923 a bouleversé le vocabulaire du mobilier comme celui de l’architecture. Ce documentaire perce le mystère de ce siège de pure création, érigé en utopie, qui fut reconnu comme la transposition en volume des dogmes du mouvement De Stijl fondé par Piet Mondrian et Theo Van Doesburg. D’abord conçue en bois de hêtre, puis peinte en gris et noir dès 1918, Rietveld désire accentuer sa construction en utilisant des couleurs vives : rouge, bleu, jaune et noir. Le jeu des couleurs renforce l’aspect formel, accroît l’indépendance des éléments et réduit l’idée de « matériau ».
