Be it as it may be, I think I've grown into being a Shinya Tsukamoto fan-boy over the years. I simply haven't seen one bad film by the man yet. And fans of Asian cinema will most likely concur with me on this. While his older, more outrageous films are just as shocking as they are fun, his later work developed into more thought-provoking, equally disturbing at times, fantastic cinema. You don't even have to like his films, but the least anyone can say is that they are intriguing and interesting.

Shin'ya Tsukamoto: Nightmare detective (2006)

A surprisingly non-offensive and mainstream film from the director of "Tetsuo the Iron Man." An older man sitting in a creepy apartment learns from a younger man named Kagenuma that he's being haunted by the soul of an aborted daughter his wife never told him about. The older man thanks Kagenuma, who leaves what turns out to be a dream for the real world, where the older man is on life support. Eventually he is drawn into a police case where an unknown person appears to be causing sleeping people to kill themselves. The director is a busy guy: he's also the writer and cinematographer, and he plays the main bad guy.
