In the late 1880's, Cavalry Sgt. Henry Foggers and three confederates rob the Army of a fortune in gold bullion and then bury it in a waterhole in the desert. A short time later a professional gambler named Lewton Cole steals a map showing the whereabouts of the gold, kills one of the confederates, and sets out to recover the treasure. Stopping at the small town of Integrity, he locks up Sheriff Copperud and his deputy in their jailhouse, steals a horse, takes a few minutes off to seduce Copperud's pretty daughter, Billee, and once more rides off. Indignant over being so casually discarded, Billee screams that she has been raped and joins her father in pursuit of Lewton. Copperud overtakes him just as Lewton retrieves the gold. Although Lewton suggests they divide the bullion, Sergeant Foggers arrives and relieves them both of the treasure. Not to be outdone, Lewton returns to Integrity, where Foggers and his boys are enjoying themselves in the town brothel owned by Lavinia. During the wild gun battle that follows, Lavinia persuades one of Foggers' accomplices, Ben, to bury the gold in an isolated spot outside of town. But Billee also learns of the location and gets there first. Then Lewton appears and repeats his earlier seduction of the susceptible Billee. While she is standing naked behind a rock, he takes the gold and crosses the border into Mexico, leaving all concerned–but most of all Billee–furious and frustrated.

A longtime pet project of Swedish filmmaker Ingmar Bergman, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's opera The Magic Flute was finally brought to the screen in 1973. While the opera itself is offered in a highly stylized and theatrical fashion, the fluidity of the camerawork turns the affair into a purely cinematic experience. Sung in Swedish, the libretto remains as ever a gentle parody of the initiation ceremonies of the Masons, offered as an other-worldly fantasy involving a kidnapped princess (Irma Urrila), a vengeful Queen of the Night (Birgit Nordin), and a carefree wanderer who periodically plays the titular flute.

The story jumps ahead to 2012. Jackson Curtis (John Cusack), a divorced father who works as a limousine driver and writer, and his ex-wife, Kate Curtis (Amanda Peet), and children, Noah (Liam James) and Lily (Morgan Lily), who live with Kate's new boyfriend, Gordon (Thomas McCarthy). Jackson takes his children on a camping trip to Yellowstone, where he meets Charlie Frost, who hosts a radio segment that addresses the Mayans' prediction. Charlie mentions a map of where special ships are, but Jackson assumes he is a rambling drunk and leaves him. Kate and Gordon and in a super market buying groceries when the floor begins to crack and the supermarket is split in half. Jackson gets a call that he has to return from camping with the kids. Jackson arrives at the house and drops the kids off, and takes his limo to a job. He goes to the house of Russian billionaire Yuri Karpov. Jackson takes yuri, his children and his girlfriend to the airport. The children make cruel comments to Jackson, and as they board the plane, they mention they have tickets to board the ships and Jackson doesnt. This leads Jackson to believe Charlies story, and he rents a plane. Jackson hurrys to Kates house and picks up her, the kids, and Gordon as the house collapses and a massive earthquake begins. They drive through L.A while it is being destroyed and arrive just in time at the airport. Gordon flys the plane out of L.A, and from the sky, we see L.A being sunken into the pacific ocean. Jackson announces they have to get to Yellow stone to get the map from Charlie. They fly there and Jackson goes looking for Charlie. He finds his R.V and takes it out looking for Charlie, he finds him at the top of a hill waiting for the impact. Charlie tells Jackson where the map is and he rushes back to the R.V as a massive explosion goes off, hurtling rocks in every direction. Jackson gets to the plane and they take off for china.

Yamaguchi (Yosuke Kubozuka), Ichikawa (Rikiya) and Kosugi (Genki Sudo) dress in white military-style uniforms to clean the streets of Shibuya from bad elements. After right-wing gang boss Aota (Yoshio Harada) takes an interest in the three, the boys gradually become influenced by him, but start to go their different ways. Yamaguchi has a fateful meeting with high school student Keiko (Mariko Takahashi) in the midst of a streetfight. Then war breaks out between Aota's gang, the Seishu Domei, and rival gang Konishi-Gumi, after the three attack a nightclub that was supposedly selling drugs. The three are drawn into the mess, and Yamaguchi loses Ichikawa and Kosugi. Then Yamaguchi gets shot when he's with Keiko…

The story revolves around Ryouko Yakushiji, a 27-year-old multilingual investigator that graduated from Tokyo University's elite Department of Law, and the bizarre cases she faces while working for the Tokyo Metropolitan Police. Yakushiji not only has to deal with supernatural beings in her line of work, but also her rival Yukiko Muromachi, another equally talented and beautiful police investigator. Based on a series of light novels written by Tanaka Yoshiki and illustrated by Kakinouchi Narumi.
