A 12 year old girl and her 8 year old brother live one week with their mother and the next week with their father. The girl blamers her mother, a super businesswoman for the divorce and turns all her anger on her. She prefers the weeks with her father who is flat broke after leaving his bank job to give people free hugs on street corners. Her brother channels his sense of injustice into the battle to save the planet. As the school year progresses and her parents struggle to mend their lives and as the girl approaches her 13th birthday, she learns to see the world in a new way.
Léa, douze ans, aurait aimé vivre dans une autre famille… Une famille où l'on ne se sépare pas, où l'on n'a pas deux maisons… une famille où sa mère la comprendrait mieux, où son père aurait un peu plus les pieds sur Terre et où son petit frère écolo ne lui reprocherait pas son temps passé sous la douche sous prétexte qu'il n'y aura bientôt plus d'eau sur la planète… Cette année-là, Léa entre en cinquième. Tandis que son père et sa mère tentent de reconstruire leur vie, elle va connaître son premier amour, celui qui bouscule les certitudes sur le monde, sur les parents, celui qui fait qu'on n'est plus jamais vraiment le même.
Cette année-là, chacun va peu à peu retrouver son équilibre et s'ouvrir aux autres…

Despite some tensions when she finds out that Simon has a love affair with her best girl-friend Catherine's efforts work out and in the "happy" end they become a real family when she finds the perfect lover.
Catherine a payé ses dettes à la société après quinze ans d'incarcération. Elle avait auparavant, tué son patron qui tentait de la violer. Pour donner un sens à sa vie, elle s'est "fait faire" un enfant pendant son séjour en prison. Elle va maintenant le découvrir et réapprendre la vie avec lui.
