    "L’amère patrie" raconte l’histoire de l’épisode du rapatriement dans le contexte politique, économique et social de la France du début des années 60… 1962. Le FLN et la France signent les accords d’Evian qui mettent fin à 8 ans de guerre et 130 années de colonisation. Pour les Pieds-Noirs, c’est-à-dire l’ensemble de la population européenne vivant sur le sol algérien, tout est prévu : ils resteront sur place et pourront se fondre dans la nation indépendante. Pourtant, les violences entre l’OAS et le FLN en décident autrement. Rien qu’en 1962, ils sont près d’un million à rejoindre la Métropole. Un afflux qui dépasse les administrations, surprend les politiques et inquiète la population. Pressés de s’intégrer dans une nation qui peine à les reconnaître comme siens, les rapatriés hésitent entre honte et colère.

The President's new policies include relocating the capital from Washington, D.C. to his hometown of Lynchburg, Virginia, and declaring that anyone not conforming to the new "Moral America" laws he creates (banning such things as tobacco, alcoholic beverages, red meat, firearms, profanity, non-Christian religions, atheism and non-marital sex) will be deported to Los Angeles Island or can choose death by electrocution as an alternative. A containment wall is built around the island with armed guards and watchtowers posted, and those sent to the island are exiled permanently…
