Mesoscale Analysis of Hydraulics by Weilin Xu
    English | EPUB | 2021 | 239 Pages | ISBN : 9811597847 | 104.7 MB

This book presents a series of complicated hydraulic phenomena and related mechanism of high-speed flows in head-head dam. According to the basic hydraulic theory, detailed experiments and numerical simulations, microscopic scale analysis on cavitation bubbles, air bubbles, turbulent eddy vortices and sand grains are examined systemically. These investigations on microscopic fluid mechanics, including cavitation erosion, aeration protection, air–water flow, energy dissipation and river-bed scouring, allow a deep understanding of hydraulics in high-head dams. This book provides reference for designers and researchers in hydraulic engineering, environment engineering and fluid mechanics.

This book presents the Coal remains the primary energy source in China, with an estimated total coal reserve of 59 trillion tons at depths of less than 2000 meters. Among these, over 50% lie at depths exceeding 1000 meters, primarily distributed in central and eastern China. Deep coal mining has become the new norm for the coal industry’s development and resource exploitation. To ensure energy supply for the rapid economic development of central and eastern regions, mining coal resources from depths of over 1000 meters is inevitable.

    English | PDF (True) | 2007 | 363 Pages | ISBN : 184628239X | 4 MB

The approach to plasticity theory developed here is firmly rooted in thermodynamics. Emphasis is placed on the use of potentials and the derivation of incremental response, necessary for numerical analysis. The derivation of constitutive models for irreversible behaviour entirely from two scalar potentials is shown.

Porous Media: Theory, Experiments and Numerical Applications by
    English | PDF (True) | 2002 | 459 Pages | ISBN : 3540437630 | 42.6 MB

The present volume offers a state-of-the-art report on the various recent sci entific developments in the Theory of Porous Media (TPM) comprehending the basic theoretical concepts in continuum mechanics on porous and mul tiphasic materials as well as the wide range of experimental and numerical applications. Following this, the volume does not only address the sophisti cated reader but also the interested beginner in the area of Porous Media by presenting a collection of articles. These articles written by experts in the field concern the fundamental approaches to multiphasic and porous materials as well as various applications to engineering problems. In many branches of engineering just as in applied natural sciences like bio- and chemomechanics, one often has to deal with continuum mechanical problems which cannot be uniquely classified within the well-known disci plines of either "solid mechanics" or "fluid mechanics". These problems, characterized by the fact that they require a unified treatment of volumetri cally coupled solid-fluid aggregates; basically fall into the categories of either mixtures or porous media. Following this, there is a broad variety of problems ranging in this category as for example the investigation of reacting fluid mix tures or solid-fluid suspensions as well as the investigation of the coupled solid deformation and pore-fluid flow behaviour of liquid- and gas-saturated porous solid skeleton materials like geomaterials (soil, rock, concrete, etc. ), polymeric and metallic foams or biomaterials (hard and soft tissues, etc).

Hydraulic Structure and Hydrodynamics by Weiqiang Wang, Chengzhi Wang, Yang Lu
    English | EPUB (True) | 2025 | 490 Pages | ISBN : 9819772508 | 102.1 MB

This book delves into discussions central to hydraulic structures and research in the realm of hydrodynamics. Hydraulic structures stand as pivotal components within civil engineering and construction, playing a safeguarding role for structures vital to human development. Examples encompass the Hoover Dam in the USA, the Three Gorges Dam in China and the Almendra Dam in Salamanca, Spain. Monitoring the safety and ensuring the structural stability of hydraulic structures has long remained a focal point within hydraulic engineering. Factors affecting the safety of hydraulic structures, water pressure, and loading demand meticulous attention. The stability of structures and materials experiences degradation due to hydraulic impact and long-term corrosion, compromising the safety of hydraulic structures. The inability to adequately support and release water during flood season or flooding can result in irreversible damage. The book aims to furnish global civil engineers with cutting-edge research and engineering examples pertaining to the safety and hydrodynamics of hydraulic structures, with a particular emphasis on dam safety and inspection. It endeavors to inspire novel insights and research avenues for the readers and provide some experiences and results for disciplinary research in this field. The topics of this book include but are not limited to the following:

    English | PDF EPUB (True) | 2024 | Pages | ISBN : 3031488202 | 135.5 MB

This book presents work collected through the Liquefaction Experiments and Analysis Projects (LEAP) in 2019 (LEAP-ASIA-2019) following the LEAP-UCD-2017 whose results have been published as a first volume. In addition to the research targets set in the previous one, such as the repeatability, variability, and sensitivity of lateral spreading on mildly sloping liquefiable sand, this volume includes research efforts to validate the generalized scaling law (hereafter “GSL”) for the identical prototype with the one employed in UCD-2017. In LEAP-ASIA-2019, 10 institutes around the world conducted 23 tests in total. It was the first multi-institutional attempts to investigate the validity of the generalized scaling law for the saturated sandy sloping deposit with wide range of initial conditions. The experimental data provided a unique basis for assessing the capabilities of six different simulation platforms for numerical simulation of soil liquefaction. The results of the experiments and the numerical simulations are presented and discussed in papers submitted by the project participants.

Geomining: Systems and Decision-Oriented Perspective by Azer Shukurov, Oksana Vovk, Artur Zaporozhets, Natalia Zuievska
    English | PDF EPUB (True) | 2024 | 290 Pages | ISBN : 3031707249 | 48.4 MB

This book represents a comprehensive exploration of the intricate intersection between geology and mining through the lens of system-oriented perspectives. Geomining stands at the forefront of modern resource extraction, blending the principles of geology, engineering, transport, and environmental science to optimize the extraction of minerals and other valuable resources from the Earth's crust. It is a dynamic field that continually evolves in response to technological advancements, environmental concerns, and economic realities. In this book, we aim to capture the essence of geomining as a holistic system, emphasizing the interconnectedness of its various components and the importance of integrated approaches to resource management. The geomining is a complex of heavy industry sectors that includes the exploration of mineral deposits, the extraction of minerals from the Earth's subsurface, and the enrichment of valuable minerals. Among the main groups of the geomining industry, the following are distinguished—fuel extraction (coal, oil, shale, peat, natural gas extraction); ore mining (iron ore, manganese ore, extraction of non-ferrous ores, precious and rare metals, etc.); mining and chemical industry (extraction of potassium salts, rock salt, apatites, nephelines, bauxites, sulfur, phosphorites, etc.); extraction of mineral raw materials for the construction industry; extraction of mineral raw materials for refractory and ceramic industries; hydromeliorative activities. The concept of a system-oriented view on geomining recognizes that mining activities do not occur in isolation but are part of larger, interconnected systems that encompass geological, environmental, social, and economic dimensions. By adopting a systems perspective, we can better understand the complexities inherent in resource extraction and develop more sustainable and efficient mining practices.
