Bronisław Gimpel was born in Lviv, part of Polish Galicia, now Lviv, Ukraine to a musical, Jewish family. His father Adolf (* 1875, † after 1937) was considered a gifted musician, violinist, clarinetist and pedagogue. His two older brothers Karol (also Karl) (* 1904, † 1942 in Bukhara) and Jakob (also Jakub) (* 1906 Lviv, † 1989 Los Angeles) became pianists, Jakob was also active as a film musician.

Bronislaw Gimpel began piano and violin lessons with his father at the age of five. At the age of eight he studied with Moritz Wolfsthal at the Conservatory of Lwów (until 1918: Lviv). From 1922 to 1926 he continued his studies with Robert Pollak at the New Vienna Conservatory. At the age of fourteen, in March 1925, he made his debut with Goldmark's Violin Concerto and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra under Rudolf Nilius. A year later, an extensive concert tour through Italy led to "storms of enthusiasm", performances in front of King Viktor Emanuel III and Pope Pius XI. and invitations to play Il Cannone on Paganini's famous Guarneri violin in Genoa and at the violinist's grave in Parma. Tours through South America and Europe followed; his brother Karol was the piano accompanist. From the autumn of 1928 to the spring of 1929 he attended courses under the direction of Carl Flesch at the Berlin University of Music. He then continued his solo career, while he held concertmaster positions with the ORAG Symphony Orchestra in Königsberg from 1929 to 1931 and with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra from 1931 to 1936. in 1935 he finished 9th. Place at the first Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition. in 1936/37 he taught violin at the Lviv Music Institute P.L.I.M
