Blue Raindrop is an album and eponymous composition by the grand orchestra conducted by Paul Mauriat, released in 1979 specifically for the Japanese market.

"Kokoro no Jikan"is the long-awaited second album of covers by Japanese singer Emi Fujita, released in 2022, 12 years after her previous album, "Kokoro no Shokutaku." The album is a collection of carefully selected, time-tested Japanese pop songs performed in a soft, acoustic style.

Mayumi Itsuwa japanese singer-songwriter from Tokyo. She released her debut single and album in October 1972. Itsuwa gained moderate success on the Japanese albums chart in her early career, and received massive popularity and acclaim through the single "Koibito yo" released in 1980.

At the end of 2024 I was invited by Hanna Girma at Serpentine Galleries to write a piece of music for the first issue of their publication "Serpentine Reader" - a collection of texts from various authors on the theme of circulation. I was immediately drawn to Hana Pera Aoake’s essay on listening to a river - there was a line that especially resonated with me about how rivers and other waterways in Hana's native Aotearoa are "conceptualised as both or either atua (gods) or living ancestors, who have their own life force and spiritual strength". In Japan, water is also deeply instilled in our culture as a sacred source - as one example, we cleanse ourselves with water at the entrance of a shrine, to purify the body and mind.

Active as a professional DJ in Japan since the late eighties, DJ Yoshizawa Dynamite is also a renowned remixer, compiler and producer. An avid record collector and an expert of Wamono music, Yoshizawa has published in 2015 the now-classic Wamono A to Z records guide book, which instantly sold-out. The book unveiled a myriad of beautiful and rare records from a highly prolific, but still then unknown, Japanese groove scene. He has also selected a large part of the music in our highly acclaimed Wamono compilations.

Cliché is Taeko Ohnuki's 6th album, originally released in 1982. Recorded in Paris and Tokyo, the album features arrangements by Francis Lai's arranger and film composer Jean Musy for the Paris sessions, and by Ryuichi Sakamoto for the Tokyo sessions. With top-notch backing from Haruomi Hosono, Kenji Omura among others, songs like "Kuro No Clair," "Shikisai Toshi," and "Peter Rabbit To Watashi" are considered classics from the early era of her career.

ROMANTIQUE is the fourth studio-recorded album by Japanese singer-songwriter Onuki Taeko. The album "ROMANTIQUE" was released by RCA/RVC in 1980 after Onuki's two-year hiatus, and reached a peak of 72nd on the Oricon charts. This album marked a turning point in Onuki's journey as she established her own style and gained popularity as a solo artist.

It is a classic! “Mignonne” is Taeko Onuki’s 3rd album released in 1978, which was the follow-up to her masterpiece “Sun Shower”(1977). Her long time collaborators from Tin Pan Alley continued to collaborate with her for this album. Arranged by Ryuichi Sakamoto and Juzo Seo, and featured musicians such as Haruomi Hosono, Shigeru Suzuki, and Yukihiro Takahashi. The sound is similar to her previous albums, with rich horns and strings arranged on top of Tin Pan Alley’s soulful rhythmic sections. The tracks have seen a resurgence of late, some of which being covered by contemporary Japanese artists ( “Yoko Gao”, “Umi to Shonen” by Akiko Yano, “Totsuzen no Okurimono” by Mariya Takeuchi).

Japanese musician Hakushi Hasegawa/長谷川白紙 proudly announces their new album Mahōgakkō/魔法学校 for LA-based Brainfeeder Records, out July 24th.
