October 4th, we are meeting in Babylon to commemorate Mehmet Uluğ in the ninth year of his Decedence. The stage of “Volkan Öktem #7” at the Mehmet Uluğ Night, which is organized in every edition of the Akbank Jazz Festival.

Their 5th album in as many years Aşk (deeper feeling of love), marks an exuberant return to the 70s Anatolian folk-rock sound that characterised Altın Gün’s first two albums.

"Ben" (I am) the second studio album by Turkish Award-winning singer Ayla Çelik, released in January 2016 under the Sony Music label. The album features arrangements by Ozan Çolakoğlu, Mustafa Ceceli, Erhan Bayrak, Orhan Sancak and Miraç Kutlu.

Savina Yannatou's fourth ECM album is a dazzling evocation of her band's hometown, plunging deep into its rich and complex history. Once known colloquially as the Jerusalem of the Balkans, Thessaloniki has been home to a host of cultures, religions and ethnic communities. Greeks, Jews, Turks, Bulgarians, Serbs, Armenians, Slav-Macedonians and Pontiac Greeks have shared the city's diverse life. Yannatou gives all of them a voice, even casting an Irish song about Salonika into this multi-lingual programme in which she shines as a unique interpreter and spokeswoman for the city's ghosts. As ever, Primavera en Salonico are a delight, one of the most resourceful bands of any idiom, as they negotiate the inspired - and very varied - arrangements of Kostas Vomvolos.

3 works of the album, consisting of 6 instrumental works, belong to Anatolian poets (Davut Sulari, Nesimi Çimen and an anonymous Thessaloniki folk song), and the other 3 works are his own compositions.

Two internationally renowned musicians, Mikis Theodorakis from Greece and Zülfü Livaneli from Turkey, have – at a time of considerable political tension between their two countries – made a record together. Five compositions by each of the two artists were recorded in Instanbul and in Athens respectively. For 18 weeks this LP was top of the Turkish charts, and in September 1986, the 'Golden Record' was presented to Mikis Theodorakis personally in Istanbul.

The rock group "Kobra" was formed in 1980 by four Turkish musicians living in West-Berlin. Their only LP "Orient-Express", published in 1983, is an extraordinary blend of Eastern and Western influences, in the typical 80's sound of the time.
