The sensational change is now on file. After about four decades, Murray Perahia has changed the label. Already in July 2013 he recorded Bach's French Suites in Berlin, which are now being released under a new label flag. Once again Bach. After "Partitas", "Goldberg", concerts and the "English Suites"follow, almost inevitably, the more delicate, delicate "French". Perahia has remained true to his approach: melodic line formation, clear at the touch, and always a certain subtlety. Hard attacks, dry skeletonized rhythms are in vain. Perahia takes the Allemanden throughout like meditative entrées, moderate in pace, contemplative brooding, which demand liberation. This is especially true for the first three suites – all in minor – but also for the second triple unit – all in major. This stream is touching and multifaceted. The air movements in suites two and three bear witness to musical box grace. Perahia almost shyly interprets the gavotte of the fifth suite. What a peace in the second minuet of the C minor suite. And how jumpy the gigue succeeds here in the end. The gigue of the fourth suite, on the other hand, begins confidently as if with fanfare calls, but only when the bass voices echo trombonically, the brass choir is complete. In the Bourrée of the G major Suite, for example, he proves how lavishly Perahia now uses ornamentation in the repetitions. He is an elegant dancer, often modest, never addicted to beaming, as he proves in the Anglaise of the third suite. Yes, there are phrases, as one could imagine a more pithy, cheerful stream. In Perahia, the sarabands are not only oases of peace, but also points of reflection. Already in the sarabande of the first suite, transience bends deeply over the notes, and Perahia turns it into a chorale of pain and comfort. Overall, Perahia again proves to be a sensitive, important Bach interpreter.
