Sharon Bezaly is known not only for her outstanding musical talent, but also for her dedication to her instrument and its repertoire. She has inspired numerous composers to compose especially for her and attaches great importance to performing and recording these works worldwide. To date, no less than 15 flute concertos have been dedicated to her, three of which are gathered on Spellbound. The CD is a supplement to the CD "Nordic Spell" from 2005, on which concerts by three Scandinavian composers (Kalevi Aho, Christian Lindberg and Haukur Tómasson) were compiled. This CD received a number of prestigious awards, including a Midem Classical Award and an Editor's Choice in Gramophone. Bezaly's performances have received top marks in various international magazines, for example in Fanfare, whose reviewer wrote: "It's easy to hear why the composers were so inspired by their artistry and why BIS is so committed to their recordings: this is the most technically safe, breathtakingly brilliant flute playing there is." On Spellbound, Sharon Bezaly interprets works by three female composers: Sofia Gubaidulina, Sally Beamish and Mari Takano. All three concerts were dedicated to Sharon Bezaly, with the composers contributing to the recordings and the booklet. The result is a triptych of three very personal pieces, connected by the fascinating artistry of Sharon Bezaly.
