His friends call him OP. He changed the way the double bass is heard and played. He made the bass a genuine solo instrument and was the first to incorporate the cello into jazz ensembles. He's played with Thelonious Monk, Coleman Hawkins, Roy Eldridge, Errol Garner, Max Roach, Woody Herman and Duke Ellington. An outstanding album full of killer jazz and double bass.
Dutchman Tony Overwater is an extraordinary gifted bassist, who has played with many great jazz artists. With his Tony Overwater Trio he creates an international stir in 2000 with the Edison awarded debut album OP. Overwater is also a member of the renowned Yuri Honing Trio and the brand new electric jazz quartet Yuri Honing Wired Paradise, where he plays the bass guitar. Besides that, Overwater is a highly acclaimed composer, writing music for his own group, documentaries and modern, varying from jazz to improvised, from Arab to classical. Lastly, he works on music education with projects like Kikker Swingt and Stadsnootjes. In 2003 Overwater received the VPRO/Boy Edgar Prize, thé Dutch jazz award.
