    L'Homo erectus, l'un des premiers représentants du genre humain, a le premier quitté l'Afrique il y a un peu moins de deux millions d'années. Les vagues migratoires successives ont notamment donné naissance à l'homme de Florès en Indonésie, et plus tard, en Europe, à l'homme de Néandertal. Mais pourquoi celui-ci a-t-il disparu au moment de l'arrivée de l'Homo sapiens en Europe ? Longtemps, les paléontologues ont supposé que les premières populations d'hommes modernes avaient fini par absorber les Néandertaliens par métissage, mais aucune trace de l'ADN de l'homme de Néandertal n'existe dans les gènes des humains d'aujourd'hui. Peu à peu repoussé vers des zones marginales, l'homme de Néandertal aurait en fait succombé à sa rencontre avec l'Homo sapiens.

    Kaum hatten sich die ersten Flugzeuge in den Himmel erhoben, da bemächtigte sich das Militär der neuen Erfindung. Bereits im Ersten Weltkriegs griffen waghalsige Piloten in die Kämpfe ein, und Fliegerasse wie Manfred von Richthofen oder Ernst Udet wurden zu gefeierten Helden. Durch die Auflagen von Versailles praktisch aufgelöst, entwickelte sich die deutsche Luftwaffe zunächst im Geheimen weiter. Nach Hitlers Machtergreifung und der Bewährungsprobe im Spanischen Bürgerkrieg wurde sie mit Nachdruck zu einer schlagkräftigen Militärmaschinerie ausgebaut. Die Blitzsiege der ersten Kriegsjahre wären ohne die Luftwaffe nicht möglich gewesen. Der im Verlauf des Krieges wachsenden Übermacht der alliierten Luftstreitmächte setzten die deutschen Ingenieure neben zahlreichen anderen Erfindungen auch die ersten Düsenflugzeuge und Raketen entgegen. Revolutionäre Neuerungen, die aber zu spät kamen, um den militärischen Zusammenbruch abzuwenden. Umfassend und mit zum Teil nie gezeigten Filmaufnahmen in Farbe und Schwarzweiß zeichnet dieser Film die Entwicklung der deutschen Luftwaffe von 1914 bis 1945 sachgerecht und spannend nach.

    (Walking with Dinosaurs is a six-part documentary television mini-series that was produced by the BBC, narrated by Kenneth Branagh, and first aired in the UK in 1999. The series was subsequently aired in North America on the Discovery Channel in 2000, with Branagh's voice replaced with that of Avery Brooks. It is the first entry of the Walking with… series and used computer-generated imagery and animatronics to recreate the life of the Mesozoic, showing dinosaurs in a way that previously had only been seen in feature films. The programme's aim was to simulate the style of a nature documentary and therefore does not include "talking head" interviews. The series used paleontologists such as Peter Dodson, Peter Larson and James Farlow as advisors (their influence in the filming process can be seen in the documentary The Making of Walking with Dinosaurs). The Guinness Book of World Records reported that the series was the most expensive documentary series per minute ever made)
