This was a funny take on the Pinocchio fairy tale. In this case, Gipetta creates a Pinocchio who's intended not as a son, but as a lover, for the lonely wood carver. She takes him to bed, but is saddened that he is only a wooden figure. When she takes a walk, Pinocchio is animated by his Fairy Godmother (Dyanne Thorne, who has some funny lines and a malfunctioning magic wand). Warned by not to do the wrong thing, Pinocchio himself goes for a walk, and runs into a conniving pimp, Jo Jo (played by Eduardo Ranez, doing a good job at playing sleazy). From there, it's funny though a bit predictable.

Lando Buzzanca plays a man desperate to father a male heir. However, his wife (Roseanne Podesta) is apparently barren. They decide to use a surrogate mother, which, since this was in the days before artificial insemination, means Buzzanca will have to impregnate the surrogate the "old-fashioned" way. After a mishap involving a VERY unattractive but fertile widow, Buzzanca sets his sights on young girl (Gloria Guida) at an orphanage for unwed mothers (who has already given an illegitimate child up for adoption). They hire her as a maid, but she is under the impression they're going to adopt her, leading to some quasi-incestual misunderstandings…

My Name is Joe - by Ken Loach (1998)

When recovering alcoholic and amateur football manager Joe (Peter Mullan) falls for health worker Sarah, who should know better, they both suspect the romance may be a bad idea, but it blossoms nevertheless. However, the lovers have very different ideas about how to deal with the problems Glaswegian life throws at them, and when Joe is forced to do some drug running to pay off a debt, their tentative relationship is in danger of spluttering to a halt.
A typically fresh and enlightening Loach comedy of misbehaviour in which the humour never risks undermining the serious social commentary, My Name Is Joe's uncompromising conclusion demonstrates that Loach is nowhere near to selling out on his ideals.
