If jazz is, as the great American jazz author Whitney Balliett once said, "the sound of surprise", then the saxophonist Carolyn Breuer and Andrea Hermenau embody this spirit in a special way. Driven by boundless curiosity, they like to leave the area of jazz still conceded by purists, Carolyn in the direction of symphony orchestra, children's rap or urban folk, Andrea in world musical fields or Bavarian cabaret programs.

You may sense something even more remote, even something inaccessible behind the strange title "Oneironaut", but the opening track "My Foolish Heart", which in its unexpected 7/4 time is anything but a standardized version of the standard, promises a pure jazz album. This promise is fulfilled to the last note with elegant, sometimes elegiac sounds, fascinating, imaginative fabrics of saxophone, piano and quasi-instrumental vocals, as well as originals that represent poetic gems, delicate and luminous. Here we jazz uncompromisingly, coming from the heart and deeply rooted in the roots, highly sensitive, fresh. And with the wonderful bird-like lightness that anyone who moves safely in dreams needs. A oneironaut is "someone who can steer his lucid dreams into the positive and thus can also turn nightmares into pleasant dreams, like a helmsman who navigates in the right direction in the sea of dreams. This is exactly what we want to achieve with our music for the listener,“ explains Carolyn, who founded the quartet with Andrea in 2018, which was developing its creative strengths especially in corona times, when performance opportunities were rare. It was a time of contemplation and increased composing, in which they also saw a task, as Andrea explains: "After the importance of mental and emotional oases for people became all the more obvious due to the contact and travel restrictions, we composed music together that should give people the opportunity to dream into other worlds.“
