    Trumpeter Colin Steele has been a doyen of the Scottish jazz scene for almost thirty years, and his joined his first jazz group the John Rae Collective almost a decade earlier. A patient man, it was not until 2002 he released his debut album Twilight Dreams and subsequently released a number of highly acclaimed albums in the interim.

    This is Steele’s third album for the German label Marina Records, and all feature the same marvellous quartet. Continuing a theme as it were, Colin has once again struck gold with what on paper seems an unlikely concept for a jazz album, but then those who have been following the trumpeter’s career and recordings over the last few years, this latest project will come as less of a surprise.

    Following on from the 2017 album Diving For Pearls that featured jazz interpretations of The Pearlfishers songbook and Joni from 2020 exploring the music of Joni Mitchell, Colin has looked to Scottish pop music for this new album, and brought together a selections of songs written by Paul Buchannan and recorded by the cult band The Blue Nile.
