Translation of his biography from his website:
Hermann Naehring studied music at the Academy of Music "Hanns Eisler" in Berlin in piano and drums, as well as an additional study of Asian and African-American music at Gantom Boro (India), tabla and Mridgam at Sina Pusba (India). The percussionist, arranger and composer was born in 1951 and lives in Frankfurt (Oder). He is a very versatile player, who has gone through a wide range of musical experiences, both practically and theoretically. After his 10-year job as a studio musician in the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, he was a freelance percussionist. He played in symphony orchestras and jazz bands, wrote for radio play, film and theater performances (eg for the pantomime ensemble of the Deutsches Theater Berlin), including cooperations with puppeteers, dancers, chanson singers. The percussionist has played with Ernst Ludwig Petrovsky, Hannes Zerbe, Gerhard Schöne, Jens Naumilkat, Mikis Theodorakis, Tobias Morgenstern and Prof. Hans-Günther Wauer and Warnfried Altmann. As a member of "L'Art de Passage" he recorded the LP "Desire for change" the most successful jazz album of the GDR. From 1995 to 2002 he was involved in the Theater of Laughter in Frankfurt (Oder). As a teacher, he passes on his knowledge and experience to music students. Frankfurt (Oder), he leads the "percussion local", a private drum school for children, youths and adults. Permanent border crossing between genres and within the music itself between the different styles, between classical and pop, between jazz and ethnic music are part of his work as a composer and as a percussionist. Hermann Naehring surrounds himself with a huge array of percussion instruments of European, African, Asian provenance which produce a sound of "world music". Never excessive, loud or even noisy, it builds suspense sensitivity, can swing gently melodic, percussive drama always dissolves in music. Hermann Naehring worked on over 40 record productions and twice received the Critics' Award of the Berliner Zeitung
