Ringo Starr - Old Wave (1983/2024) [Official Digital Download 24/96]

Old Wave is the ninth studio album by Ringo Starr, released in 1983 following the 1981 album Stop and Smell the Roses.

In early 1982, Starr couldn't wait to start working on the next album. Deciding that this time he needed to make a more similar-sounding album, he wanted to work with only one producer, Joe Walsh, a former member of the disbanded Eagles band. Walsh and Starr have known each other since the mid-1970s, meeting and becoming friends in Los Angeles. Walsh immediately agreed to work with Ringo, they met in February 1982 and began preparing material for the recording of the album. The album was originally titled It Beats Sleep.

After the murder of John Lennon on December 8, 1980, Starr no longer felt safe in the United States and returned home to England and began living in the Tittenhurst Park mansion, which Starr bought from Lennon in 1973. After converting Lennon's home studio into a studio called Startling Studios, Starr decided to record a new album here. Lennon's song "Borrowed Time", a demo recording of which Lennon gave to Starr in New York two weeks before his death, so that they would record it together a little later for Starr's album Stop and Smell the Roses (1981), was recorded, but never included in any of the editions of the Old Wave album; the song is present on the posthumous Lennon's LP Milk and Honey (1984), a collection of songs including four tracks originally intended for Ringo's album, is something that each of the other three Beatles often did.
