Junior Murvin, with his distinctive falsetto lead vocal, is best remembered for “Police And Thieves”, his breakthrough hit produced in 1976 by Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry that was later covered by the iconic British punk band The Clash. Now, in 2025, Greensleeves Records proudly presents Cool Down The Heat, produced by King Jammy, a newly compiled posthumous album that contains 80s recordings of several of Murvin’s crucial classics, including his signature tune. These original recordings have been remixed and updated by the inimitable King Jammy for 2025, and “Police And Thieves”, along with many of the other tracks on the album, are new to streaming services and exclusive to this album.

Cool Down The Heat is Junior’s third for the legendary U.K. reggae and dancehall label, following on some forty-odd years since Muggers In The Street, produced by Henry ‘Junjo Lawes in 1984 and Apartheid, produced by Prince Jammy in 1986. These 1980s recordings have been rejuvenated and embellished by Jamaican super-producer Lloyd ‘King Jammy’ James for 2025, many of which were previously unreleased. Originally recorded at King Jammy’s Studio, located at 38 St. Lucia Avenue, in the heart of Kingston’s Waterhouse neighbourhood, Cool Down The Heat contains the sizzling title track plus updates of some of Murvin’s biggest tunes including the Notting Hill Carnival anthem “Poilce And Thieves” and the Real Rock riddim classic “Cool Out Son” in a digital style, as well as brand new productons, including standouts “Come From Far”, “Ism Schism”, “No Bed Of Roses” and “Lion Mouth”. The ten-track vinyl LP comes complete with a fresh sleeve design, courtesy of French graphic artist collective Supercinq, incorporating photos from esteemed photographer and longtime Greensleeves collaborator David Corio.
