The Paris-based Quatuor Tchalik is notable not least because its members are four siblings. Raised in a Russian-French family with Ukrainian roots, in which music played a central role, they have been making music together since their earliest childhood. This early and intimate contact with chamber music has allowed the four young musicians to develop their own, entirely natural approach to expressive and versatile quartet playing, creating an extraordinary artistic connection between them.

These qualities became obvious during the first international competition the ensemble participated in: at the 2018 International Mozart Competition in Salzburg, the Quatuor Tchalik caused a sensation, taking both the first prize and the special prize for the best interpretation of a Mozart string quartet.

The quartet has played at prestigious festivals in France, including those of Radio France Occitanie Montpellier, Flâneries Musicales de Reims, the String Quartet Biennale of the Philharmonie de Paris and made its debut concert at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in November 2021. Internationally they have played in such halls as the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Dresden and Cologne Philharmonies, the Mozarteum Salbourg, the Palazzetto Bru Zane in Venice. They were invited by such festivals as the Mozartfest Würzburg, the Rheingau Festival, the Heidelberger Frühling or the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival. In December 2019, they had their first tour in China. They are also regularly invited on radios such as France Musique, Radio Classique, Musiq’3 (RTBF), SWR2, Espace 2 (RTS), BBC 3…

As well as performing all over the world, the Quatuor Tchalik has set up its own independent label, Alkonost Classic, and is developing an intense recording activity. Its albums devoted to Thierry Escaich and Saint-Saëns have won two Choc de Classica awards, and its Reynaldo Hahn album, acclaimed by international critics, received an ffff from Télérama. Their last two recordings, devoted to Russian and Ukrainian music, were also acclaimed by the critics.

The Quatuor Tchalik is also passionate about the contemporary repertoire. It has premiered works by such composers as Jacques Boisgallais, Michèle Reverdy, Bastien David, Pierre Farago and Thierry Escaich. In 2024, they gave the world premiere of Fabien Waksman's Voix de l'indicible.

The highlights of the 2024-25 season will take the quartet to the Concertgebouw in Nijmegen, Perugia Musica Classica, the Schwetzinger SWR Festspiele, the Mozartfest Würzburg, the Auditorium National de Lyon and twice to the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées.

The Quatuor Tchalik trained with Günter Pichler (1st violin and founder of the Alban Berg Quartet) at the prestigious Escuela Superior de Mùsica Reina Sofía in Madrid. He has also studied with renowned chamber musicians such as Jan Talich and Vladimír Bukač (Talich Quartet), Yovan Markovitch (former Ysaye Quartet/Danel Quartet), Heime Müller (Artemis Quartet), Johannes Meissl (Artis Quartet) and Krzysztof Chorzelski (Belcea Quartet).

The instruments played by the members of the quartet are exclusively made for them by violin maker Philippe Mitéran and bow-maker Konstantin Cheptitski. Since 2024 the quartet also plays four classical bows by Jean-Yves Tanguy.

The Tchaliks regularly play as a quintet with their pianist brother, Dania Tchalik, but also with great musicians such as Edgar Moreau, Pierre Génisson, Henri Demarquette, Victor Demarquette, Thierry Escaich, Adam Laloum, Fanny Azzuro or the comedians Pierre Hancisse et Alain Langlet.

In autumn 2024, the Quatuor Tchalik opened a string quartet class at the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris.
