At the time of buying this LP, I thought I was going to find a Stivell immersed in the Prog-Folk music… my surprise was great after listening to it completely: Totally unplugged, no instrument with electric cables. Today is one of my favorite records of this legendary harpist. And I think he took the risk to go back to his Breton roots and immerse us in the Breton-Folk music.
I recommend this document with responsibility, to learn how to differentiate the Breton-Folk from Celtic music in general. By the way, there are a couple of Scottish pieces, it is a very beautiful and unique album.
Fran Solo, MMXVII

This particular outing is more traditional, or at least as traditional as Alan Stivell can be. Electric guitars and keyboards are eschewed in favour of more conservative instruments of Celtic music, and arrangements are generally sparse and thinly layered. This makes E Langonned less appealing for fans who prefer a greater prog quotient, but to suggest that “Jenovofa”, “Diougan Guenc’hlan”, and “Ar Voraerion” are devoid of an adventurous spirit would be unfair and inaccurate. Stivell is in fine voice here, building mini verse upon mini verse while plucking fervently. In Stivell’s world the performer has a duty that extends beyond artistic integrity. He must inject something, nay, everything of himself and his musical worldview into his interpretation of the ancient performance. The modern listener demands no less, and, in much of E Langonned, is not disappointed.
