Ranma ½ (らんま½, Ranma Nibun no Ichi?, pronounced Ranma one-half) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Rumiko Takahashi with an anime adaptation. The story revolves around a 16-year old boy named Ranma Saotome who was trained from early childhood in martial arts. As a result of an accident during a training journey, he is cursed to become a girl when splashed with cold water, but hot water will change him back into a boy.

An well-off Indian family is paid an unexpected, and rather unwanted, visit by a man claiming to be the woman's long lost uncle. The initial suspicion with which they greet the man slowly dissolves as he regales them with stories of his travels, tales that are at odds with their conventional middle class perspective on the world.

A young girl walks through a secret door in her new home and discovers an alternate version of her life. On the surface, this parallel reality is eerily similar to her real life - only much better. But when her adventure turns dangerous, and her counterfeit parents (including Other Mother) try to keep her forever, Coraline must count on her resourcefulness, determination, and bravery to get back home - and save her family.

My father’s first piece of advice before I started making this film was to, “make it with whatever means you have. Count your pennies and then invent a story”.
Means I didn’t really have, so I invented a story that didn’t require dialogues or lighting (on the same principle as Besson’s film). The camera was a 16mm Bolex with a spring wind that made it possible to film 30 seconds straight. The greatest part of the budget went on an adaptor for photo lenses that cost a horrible 700 francs (I still remember the cost). The film was recuperated from different shoots and the very reduced crew was composed exclusively of friends.
We managed to get some incredible shots for the technology we employed (the tracking shot combined with a zoom with a change of speed was epic).
Once the shoot had ended I hadn’t any money left to finish it, so I filmed the screen of the editing table on video to show potential producers. I worked at the time on music video clips and the producers offered to cut the short into a music video. No thanks. Finally I met Christophe Rossignon who had taken over the “short films” section of Lazennec Productions, a young production company in vogue at the time. Christophe, a sound engineer by training, and television repairman, was in the process of repairing the photocopy machine when I showed up dressed like a bicycle courier, just like the character of Felix in “Cafe au Lait”.

The needy Gigi Haim is a young woman seeking her prince charming somewhere amongst her unsuccessful dates.
