Formé en 1982, Destruction est considéré comme l'un des trois rois du thrash metal allemand avec Kreator et Sodom. Ce titre honorifique et la présence d'éléments de death metal dans sa musique ne suffit pas à faire de Destruction un cador du genre. Depuis 1985 et son premier album Infernal Overkill, Destruction n'est en effet crédité d'aucun coup d'éclat. Après une longue pause entre 1990 et 1999, Destruction revient aux affaires et reste fidèle à un style que l'on peut qualifier de basique. Spiritual Genocide en 2012 s'intègre sans mal dans une discographie plutôt linéaire.
