Gothenburg, Sweden-based metal band MadMan's Choice present Vanity, a ten-track record of heaviness mixed with stoner rock chill and stunning vocal harmonies. Drawing from influences like The Smashing Pumpkins, Porcupine Tree and the Deftones, the group puts forth a cohesive, forward-looking sound with this release.

Five guys with different musical backgrounds now stand united in a merged squad. Gothenburg in MadMan's Choice started in 2015 and has since taught in different constellations of clubs in our elongated country. Now the band is resting on the release of their debut album Vanity. Members' aforementioned differences have led to a personal sound image best described as pure-grunge from the 21st century.

Grunge tends to compete for who can play at the slowest pace or possibly who can pull out the tunes at the longest. MadMan's Choice does a brilliant job of putting a modern touch on the music. With a steady bitter tongue the band has managed to bump into a cheeky jump in each track. Dirt and casual tones meet in Derailed. Even the title track has the same dirty influences from Alice in Chains' old album Jar of Flies (1994). Then add Blind who goes from a cheerful intro to an explosive and swift skirt package and you have something with a personal charm. This charm can also be attributed to the singer Morgan de Boer's voice even if it feels limited. On the other hand, The Agony In Me could have been put on the shelf. These thirty seconds of semiconductor acoustic guitar picks feel like the disc's black sheep.

MadMan's Choise is stirring in the pot and even though the 90's dominates the sound image, the quartet offers a massive debut album. It is usually nice to say that fresh dare is half won. With these Gothenburgers, the phrase is correct because they could as well have drove into a half-time alternative rock dike. Stay on your way guys and drive just a bit barking.
