Bertrand Pierre & Latvian Radio Big Band - Les nuits de Montparnasse (2022) [Official Digital Download 24/48]

On the occasion of the order of a complete program for the Latvian Radio Big Band, the French artist Pierre Bertrand chose to pay tribute to the Paris-Riga connection during the interwar period, and to the actors of the nights of Montparnasse where jazz and South American music came to meet French popular and classical music, and where the great visual artists met.

The 1920s embodied the renaissance of the Montparnasse district, a period of joy and artistic outpouring. It was the era of Josephine Baker, Art Deco and Coco Chanel. Also, the 20s and 30s were a time when everything seemed possible in Riga, nicknamed “Little Paris”.

Thus, Pierre Bertrand chose to draw inspiration from five great paintings by masters who distinguished themselves in these famous nights in Montparnasse: Pablo Picasso, Robert Delaunay, Vassily Kandisky, Marc Chagall and Joan Miró.
