Veteran pianist Don Friedman has recently released several piano trio albums from the Japanese label Eighty-Eight's, and this one is arguably the best of them. Recommended for fans of straight-ahead piano trio music. DSD Recording.

The name "VIP Trio" is totally appropriate as Friedman is paired with bass master Ron Carter, and younger drummer Omar Hakim who contemporary sensibilities. Together, they perform well-known standards with great taste: Carter's bass provides propulsive swing while Hakim's sharp and colorful drumming adds excitement.
