For many fans and critics, the cool, Latin-tinged jazz of “Sweet Rain” is the best Stan Getz ever recorded on LP – even though the legendary tenor saxophonist had recorded numerous brilliant albums over six decades. Steve Huey's AllMusic review reinforces this view, stating that “the quartet's musical level remains high on every selection, and the wonderfully consistent atmosphere the album evokes makes it one of Getz's best albums. An absolute classic.”

Joe Henderson is the essence of jazz. He embodies all the elements that came together in his generation: the virtuosity of hard bop and the avantgarde. He can be harmonically abstract and yet keep to the roots. On 1980's "Mirror, Mirror", Henderson has gathered a truly all-star group. This album isn't about a soloist and his sidemen: all the musicians are on an equal footing, everyone has their space to play.

Records during the 1960s, when he made "one of the more significant contributors to orchestral jazz". This album, recorded in September 1969, features Top-of-the-pops instrumental covers of "My Cherie Amour", "Everybody's Talking", some background bossa nova and a criminally wasted cast of all-stars: Hubert Laws, Curtis Fuller, Sam Brown, Ron Carter, Grady Tate and Airto. McFarland's cover of the Beatles' "Get Back" is excellent though.
