Vagabondoj (Esperanto for traveller) is a world music ensemble from Germany that brings together influences from different musical languages and seeks their common ground. They combine traditional melodies and dances from different cultures with tailor-made compositions from their own pen. Klezmer clarinet, swinging guitar and the sonority of a classical tuba are driven by percussion and drums. This special instrumentation as well as the sophisticated arrangements and improvisations shape the unmistakable sound of Vagabondoj.

On their album "Traumtänzer", their journey takes them through the Yiddish shtetl of old Europe, through the wild gorges and landscapes of the Balkans, across the Bosporus to Asia Minor and across the Big Pond to the New World. This is how a standard from the klezmer repertoire meets its Turkish roots. A driving Gypsy swing turns into a radio-ready anthem and a Hungarian melody is sent on a journey by ship.

Vagabondoj was founded in 2013 by Bodo Scheer, Ralph Hanl and Matthias Schütz and the first concerts, festivals and radio contributions soon followed. In 2017, the first album "unterwegs" was released and the eponymous programme was presented on countless stages. 2020 saw the expansion to a quartet with drummer Matthias Lang. The new programme "Traumtänzer" will appear as the second album in 2022.
