AVID Jazz is proud to introduce an exciting new addition to our Four Classic Album series, Four Classic Jazz Instrumentalists. We continue with Four Classic Jazz Bassists, a re-mastered 2CD set complete with original artwork, liner notes and personnel details.

Mastered from the original tapes this 2 CD set includes the original segued album plus volume 2 of the super rare 'Special Instrumental' album. This has never been released on CD before and spotlights just what brilliant musicians Voyage were. For those used to hearing the tracks with vocals it will be an amazing experience to hear the instrumental versions. Disc 2 features the much sought after Hot Tracks remix of 'Souvenirs' as well as the original 7" and 12" mixes of the hit singles. As a special treat we also include the superb 'Dance And Romance' by Disco & Co - which is the Voyage guys under one of their many pseudonyms.

AVID Jazz continues with its Four Classic Album series with a re-mastered 2CD second release from Lester Young. This time we have included not only a couple of classic Count Basie titles which heavily feature “Pres” at his absolute prime, but also the formidable classic “The Jazz Giants”.

What ties these 12 soul/funk gems from the '70s together, apart from stylistic and periodic similarities? First and foremost, the feel of each song is reflected in the disc's title, which obviously takes its name from the first selection here, Lowrell's "Mellow Mellow Right On." Second, this disc comes with a sticker affixed to it that proclaims, "Original sources for Massive Attack, A Tribe Called Quest, Eric B. & Rakim, Mary J. Blige, Portishead, and more." Mellow Mellow, like any good compilation or mix tape of smooth '70s soul, acts as an elixir, siphoning the tension from your body and mind. Adequate space is reserved for crate-digger favorite Roy Ayers, who is behind three of the songs here.
