Having already sampled the best of T-Bone Walker’s late 1940s recordings (T-Bone Jumps Again - JASMCD3149) and 1950s recordings (Get These Blues Off Me - JASMCD3051), Jasmine now turns the spotlight on the more obscure session work undertaken by the great guitarist when his career allowed. Spanning over twenty years from his post-war entrance as a singer with Les Hite’s popular West Coast orchestra and his guitar-for-hire stint with Freddie Slack’s swing band, through his early 1950s indie label session work backing California bluesmen Mercy Dee Walton and Roy Hawkins to his European rediscovery in the early 1960s, using his guitar and seldom-heard piano skills to back his fellow headliners Memphis Slim, Sonny & Brownie, Shakey Jake and John Lee Hooker, as well as performing in his own right at the American Folk Blues Festival in 1962.

A native to Louisiana, Jerry Lee Lewis embodied the wildest form of rock in the 1950s. He appeared suddenly, after the success of Elvis Presley, whom he challenged. His originality was the key to his popularity: long, blonde, messy hair, a dazzling pianist performing energized country, blues, and rock and roll. He was a born performer who could play standing, as well as with his feet or who could set fire to his piano and continue playing it; he was also a singer of outstanding charisma. His career was broken overnight by a moral scandal in 1958, but his complete output released at the time is indispensable to any rock fan.

Drawing inspiration from jam band legends like Phish, Grateful Dead, and Umphrey's McGee, the band quickly rose through the ranks of the scene, maintaining a prolific live performance schedule and releasing a steady stream of concert albums (2024's Live at the Greek Theater) and studio efforts (Shenanigans Nite Club (2021), Dripfield (2022), and Chain Yer Dragon (2025). Goose was founded in 2014 by ex-Vasudo members Rick Mitarotonda (vocals, guitar), Ben Atkind (drums), and Trevor Weekz (bass). This album features The Strawbs, one of the standout British progressive bands of the early '70s. Setting themselves apart, their sound drew heavily from English folk music rather than rock. They gained recognition with their hit "Part of the Union," which peaked at number two on the UK Singles Chart in February 1973. Another notable track from the same LP is "Lay Down," a popular progressive rock hit. The Strawbs embarked on tours with Supertramp during their "Crime of the Century" tour, and they undertook their own "Hero and Heroine" tour, drawing musical similarities and themes. A review in Rolling Stone in 1974 praised their transition from folkier roots to a lush, mellotron-dominated sound, drawing comparisons to Yes, King Crimson, and the Moody Blues. Critics noted their compelling songwriting and lyrical depth.

George Harrison Nicknamed "the Quiet Beatle" at the height of Beatlemania, George Harrison did indeed seem somewhat reserved compared to the other members of the Fab Four. He favored wry wit to Ringo Starr's clowning, and he never indulged in either John Lennon's penchant for controversy or Paul McCartney's crowd-pleasing antics. He preferred sly provocations to larger-than-life bravado. Harrison's measured, considered persona was reflected in his music, particularly his clean, composed lead guitar parts but also in his earliest songs for the Beatles where he didn't seem to waste a line. With the introduction of psychedelics, spirituality, and Indian music in the mid-'60s, George's horizons expanded considerably and he started to come into his own as a musician, releasing a pair of experimental albums on Apple's Zapple offshoot before settling into a songwriting style that spliced Dylanesque introspection with his natural pop grace, while also developing a unique slide guitar technique that owed nothing to the blues. Later Beatles albums hinted at this flowering of talent; The Beatles and Abbey Road contained some of his strongest work, with the latter including the standard "Something," a song Frank Sinatra called "the greatest love song of the past 50 years."Still, it wasn't until the 1970 release of All Things Must Pass, the post-Beatles triple album that was effectively his solo debut, that the general audience appreciated the depth of his talents.
