For the past decade, Spirit of the beehive have honed an aesthetic like no other. They’ve chopped up samples, chewed them up, spit them back out again, baby birded it. Across four albums and a smattering of EPs, Zack Schwartz, Corey Wichlin, and Rivka Ravede have fully solidified their stance as some of rock’s weirdest and best deconstructionists. 2018’s Hypnic Jerks was a study in noise punk sampledelia. It was a breakthrough for the band. Frank Ocean became a fan, spinning “fell asleep with a vision,” on Blonded Radio. 2021’s Entertainment Death, was nasty dream pop by way of K-Mart realism and hitting the channel search setting on an old TV set.

Spanish indie rockers Hinds are back with their utterly triumphant fourth album, Viva Hinds. Written by the band’s co-founders, co-vocalists, co-guitarists and co-songwriters Carlotta Cosials and Ana Perrote, it features their first-ever fully Spanish language songs, as well as first collaborations with the likes of Beck and Fontaines D.C.’s Grian Chatten.”

Three Quarter Skies – the new band formed by Simon Scott from Slowdive – release their debut album Fade In. It was recorded by Simon and mixed with the help of elusive Flying Saucer Attack mainman Dave Pearce. The eight-track album includes the singles ‘Crows’ and ‘Leave A Light On’, a Nick Drake cover and brand new versions of ‘Holy Water’ and ‘Pieces Of Roslin’, which was originally released on last year’s introductory EP, Universal Flames.

Soccer Mommy has dropped an EP full of covers called Karaoke Night, featuring her unique take on songs by Taylor Swift, Pavement, Slowdive, and more. Along with Sophie Allison’s excellent reimaginings of Sheryl Crow’s “Soak Up the Sun” and Swift’s “I’m Only Me When I’m with You,” the five-track Karaoke Night includes her renditions of “Here” by Pavement, “Losing My Religion” by R.E.M., and “Dagger” by Slowdive. Nothing surprising here — if you’re at all familiar with Soccer Mommy’s catalog, you can hear how all five artists have influenced her music, from bubbly pop to scrappy indie rock.

Maple Glider, aka Melbourne / Naarm-based artist Tori Zietsch, returns with new album I Get Into Trouble, the follow-up to her stunning 2021 debut To Enjoy is the Only Thing. I Get Into Trouble sees Zietsch delve into her Christian childhood, exploring her relationship to her body, consent, shame, and the death of relationships, both romantic and familial.

Emmy Award-nominated singer, songwriter, and composer Ingrid Michaelson releases 1st new solo record in five years. "I haven't released a full-length solo record since 2019," Michaelson said. "I really wanted to put something out in the world that felt a little different from what I had released before, but also kind of a returning home. Something a little quieter, something a little hopeful, something for those of us who can't help but keep dreaming despite the darkness, and all under the sonic umbrella of the vintage vibes of decades past. English indie rock group Black Box Recorder formed in London in 1997 and featured Sarah Nixey, Luke Haines (of The Auteurs), and John Moore (of The Jesus and Mary Chain). Their debut album, England Made Me, was released on Chrysalis Records in 1998. The album was named after the eponymous Graham Greene novel and fuses indie rock and easy-listening pop stylings with lyrics that explore life and the experience of growing up in England.
