"Impressions" contains two studio tracks paired with two live songs left over from the same November 1961 recordings that yielded John Coltrane's very successful "Live At The Village Vanguard". There was too much material for one LP so the music had to be divided up, with this second album coming a year after the first.

One of the turning points in the career of John Coltrane came in 1965. The great saxophonist, whose playing was always very explorative and searching, crossed the line into atonality during that year, playing very free improvisations that were full of passion and fury.

Two titans of jazz come together in a rare and highly acclaimed collaboration, recorded in 1962. At the time, Duke Ellington had been working with various veteran jazz artists of the day such as Louis Armstrong and Count Basie, but John Coltrane was half Ellington's age and not nearly as famous at the time as he was going to be. For these small group sessions, each headliner brought his own bassist and drummer, who play in various combinations on the seven songs.

Blues-ette is an album by American trombonist Curtis Fuller recorded in 1959 and originally released on the Savoy label. The Allmusic website awarded the album 4½ stars stating "Sessions in any genre of music are all too often described as "sublime," but seldom has that description been better deserved than with this relaxed hard bop classic. Any serious jazz collection is incomplete without this record".

A pivotal album not only in John Coltrane's career but also in the evolution of jazz, the adventurous 1966 outing "Ascension" consists of a single, 40-minute long composition split over the two sides of the original vinyl. Coltrane is part of a seven-piece horn section (which includes Freddie Hubbard) with McCoy Tyner on piano, Art Davis and Jimmy Garrison on bass and drummer Elvin Jones. This release includes both takes recorded by Coltrane and his musicians, known as "Edition I" and "Edition II", previously available individually.

"Swing, Swang, Swinging" is an album by American saxophonist Jackie McLean recorded in 1959 and released on the Blue Note label. This album is a straight ahead affair in which he mostly puts his stamp on standards. Few versions of "Let's Face The Music And Dance" and "I Love You" have ever had this much intensity and, when McLean digs into the ballad "What's New", he gives it a fiery passion that had never been heard before. Jackie McLean not only swings and swangs but he burns with the urgency, agony and ecstasy of the 1960s.

This BD reissue features the original "A Love Supreme" album along with the Quartet's only live performance of the suite at the Antibes Jazz Festival in 1965-oft-bootlegged, and some alternative takes, includes long-rumored sextet performance of the opening movement with Archie Shepp and Art Davis is a flat-out revelation.

Coltrane is a 1962 studio album by jazz saxophonist John Coltrane (do not confuse with same title 1957 album). Francis Davis of The Village Voice felt that, apart from the "modal, three-quarter time novelty hit "The Inch Worm", consumers should buy the album for the gorgeous "Soul Eyes" and a shattering 'Out of This World'." The composition "Tunji" was written by Coltrane in dedication to the Nigerian drummer Babatunde Olatunji.

"The John Coltrane Quartet Plays" (full title "The John Coltrane Quartet Plays Chim Chim Cheree, Song of Praise, Nature Boy, Brazilia") is an album by jazz musician John Coltrane, recorded in February and May 1965, shortly after the release of "A Love Supreme". All About Jazz noted that "all through this recording the intensity has been turned up a notch since A Love Supreme, the immediately preceding quartet recording… The music is often arresting and moving, but it certainly does seem as if the calm attainment of A Love Supreme has somehow been broken". And called the album "great music from a great musician" & "an invaluable record of a man struggling to attain to greater clarity of vision."

Coltrane’s "Sun Ship" was one of the final and finest chapters in the story of his classic quartet. It features pianist McCoy Tyner, bassist Jimmy Garrison and drummer Elvin Jones. The work highlights the saxophonist in transition from the secular (“Dearly Beloved”) to the sacred (“Amen”). "Sun Ship: The Complete Session" includes every recorded moment from this historic session including alternate takes, conversations between the musicians, their leader and their producer and more than one hour of unreleased music.

Ballads is a jazz album by John Coltrane. It was recorded in December 1961 and 1962, and released on the Impulse! label in March 1963. Critic Gene Lees stated that the quartet had never played the tunes before. "They arrived with music-store sheet music of the songs" and just before the recordings, they "would discuss each tune, write out copies of the changes they'd use, semi-rehearse for a half hour and then do it". Each piece was recorded in one take, except for "All or Nothing at All". In 2008, the album was a recipient of the Grammy Hall of Fame award.

The important tenor Archie Shepp and his 1967 group romp through the continuous 43-and-a-half-minute "One for the Trane" before an enthusiastic audience at a German music festival. Although he improvises very freely and with great intensity, Shepp surprised the crowd by suddenly bursting into a spaced-out version of "The Shadow of Your Smile" near the end of this memorable performance. On the whole, this very spirited set represents avant-garde jazz at its peak and Archie Shepp at his finest. This is an exciting album.
