Norwegian bassist & composer Mats Eilertsen has done his best to stay active during the pandemic. His previous solo album Solitude Central (Hemli, 2021) was drawn from his captivating improvised performance during the 2020 Norwegian Digital Jazz Festival. Hymn For Hope is a quartet album, with Eilertsen's compositions augmented by a few brief collective improvisations. He is joined by saxophonist Tore Brunborg—a member of the band Masqualero, as well as appearing on ECM albums by Tord Gustavsen and Mathias Eick—guitarist Thomas Dahl—who previously played on Eilertsen's album Rubicon (ECM Records, 2016), with Eilersen in the Skydive Trio and led his own debut Thomas Dahl & Court: Quilter (Losen Records, 2019)—and drummer Hans Hulbækmo (Moskus, Hanna Paulsberg Concept).

Nearly ninety years after its opening in Paris at Opera Garnier, Transylvanian expat pianist Lucian Ban and American violist Mat Maneri present a radical re-imagination of George Enescu’s famous Oedipe opera. For decades, the opera was seen as too difficult to perform, the score and four long acts demanded much from the musicians, but Enescu’s Oedipe has finally begun to receive the attention that it rightly deserves and to be recognized as one of the greatest works in the operatic repertoire.

ENEMY, the trio of drummer James Maddren, pianist Kit Downes and bassist Petter Eldh make their We Jazz Records debut with their third album The Betrayal, out 22 September 2023. After their self-titled debut (Edition, 2018) and the follow up (Vermillion, ECM 2022), the explosive yet lyrical trio is seeking new directions with the 12-track new record, arguably their strongest yet.

Carried by incandescent rhythms, Caldeira—a reference to the heart of a volcanic edifice—deploys organic music that is both scholarly and instinctive, nourished by a strong spiritual dimension. The contributions of virtuoso saxophonist Godwin Louis enrich this powerful opus, a true homage to the earth and its sunny peoples.

The Axiom Quartet in its current line-up began working together in the summer of 2015, after its members had been carefully selected and – with some persuasion – had won over Dejan Terzić’s then label CamJazz and its producer Ermanno Basso. Their first CD, ‘Prometheus’, was recorded in New York in February 2016. A lot has happened since the band first got together in 2015 – although strictly speaking, it wasn’t their first meeting: Dejan Terzić and Chris Speed had been working together since 2004 and had made recordings together. But it wasn’t until 2015 that they came together in the quartet line-up you hear today. Since then, Axiom has toured extensively throughout Europe and recorded another album, which was recorded in Udine, Italy, in March 2020, at the beginning of the pandemic, and was finally released in 2022.

It Takes All Kinds To Make A World" pairs critically acclaimed saxophonist and composer Frederik Lundin with the forward-thinking Odense Jazz Orchestra in an original set of intricately composed music which bridges the gap between avant-garde emotion and heavy groove. But this is much more than simply a collection of newly-commissioned big band jazz.

It is often the case that the creation of successful art comes down to basic factors. For jazz music, talent and creativity are obvious essentials. But what usually drives music further is trust between performers and a sense of spontaneity in performance. Keyboard master Gary Versace aimed to harness all these elements on his new recording, Three Track Mind, a vibrant collection of spontaneous interpretations of classic standards and original compositions featuring bassist François Moutin and drummer Rudy Royston.

This recording captures a performance at The Lilypad Inman in Cambridge, MA, a venue where both musicians have frequently collaborated. It serves as a live counterpart to their 2014 studio effort, Music from a Parallel Dimension, which was released under Ra Kalam Records.

After an unreleased recording from 1981 that reveals how energy has been a cornerstone of the group’s poetics from the very beginning, Nexus expanded to a quintet in 1983 with the addition of Pino Minafra on trumpet. It was this lineup that recorded Open Mouth Blues.

Stitching Life is the second duo album from tenor saxophonist Noah Preminger and guitarist Max Light, released on March 27, 2026, through Chill Tone Records. Following their 2022 collaboration Songs We Love, this project features a blend of original compositions and reimagined classics from diverse genres.

Nils Berg has been a cornerstone of the Swedish jazz scene since the turn of the millennium. Known internationally as an innovative bandleader and collaborator, this release places the spotlight — for the first time — on Berg’s work as a composer for large ensemble. Paid To Cry is the result of an intensive collaboration with the Norrbotten Big Band, one of Scandinavia’s most acclaimed jazz orchestras. Drawing melodic clarity and emotional directness from composers such as Burt Bacharach and Kurt Weill, while embracing the raw courage of Björk and Sun Ra, and the pulsating minimalism of Steve Reich, the music forms a sound world that feels both familiar and entirely its own.
