"Fetch the Bolt Cutters" is the fifth studio album by American singer-songwriter Fiona Apple. It was Apple's first release since "The Idler Wheel" in 2012. Apple began recording the album in 2015, producing and performing it alongside Amy Aileen Wood, Sebastian Steinberg and Davíd Garza. It features a percussive and idiosyncratic sound, lyrically exploring freedom from oppression and Apple's relationships with women. The album received universal critical acclaim upon its release and is currently the highest-rated album of all time on review aggregator Metacritic.

While Tidal introduced us to Apple, the awkward and sullen girl, When the Pawn… had her shooting back with a fiery vengeance at a time when Tori Amos and Alanis Morissette were making anger feminine and more mainstream than their punk predecessors. On the record, Apple sings with a gnarly gruffness. She begins most songs with a deceptive sweetness, building to an angsty climax, wielding her voice as a weapon against ex-boyfriends and bullies. This now on vinyl for the first time ever!

The unhurried artist’s first studio album in eight years is astonishing, intimate and demonstrates a refusal to be silenced. The Apple of 2020 is astonishing; as if she has returned to reinvent sound – the rhythms pleasing, but counter, and unusual. On the title track she half-sings over a makeshift orchestra of kitchen implements, dog bark and cat yowl. The beat on Kick Me Under the Table has a seething back-and-forth pace; the extraordinary For Her beds double Dutch skipping rope rhythms beneath a chorus of female voices.
